OSCEOLA – The Osceola/South Mississippi County Chamber of Commerce is shooting for success with its inaugural Big Catch catfish festival by bringing legendary Southern Rock band, 38 Special, to Sans Souci Park on the banks of the Mississippi River on the Saturday after Labor Day, September 8, 2012.
The Big Catch catfish festival will feature a 100% payout catfish tournament on the Mississippi River, an Outdoor Living Expo, riverboat rides, a Kids Fun Zone, the Big Catch Catfish Cook-Off, food/beverage vendors, various contests with prizes, and a music stage with live entertainment.
“The Big Catch offers something for everyone,”said Chamber Executive Director Eric Golde.“Whether you like to catch fish or not, whether you prefer catfish or barbecue, no matter your age, the Big Catch is a great opportunity to eat some great food, hear some great music, and have fun by the River.The view of the Mighty Mississippi from Sans Souci overlook and landing are unparalleled. ”
Playing over 100 cities per year,38 Special thrills audiences with their live performances of classic hits such as“Hold On Loosely,”“Rockin’ Into the Night,”“Caught Up in You,”“Fantasy Girl,”“If I’d Been the One,”“Back Where You Belong,”“Chain Lightnin’,”and“Second Chance.”
“We are very fortunate that a world-famous band like 38 Special would think enough of our new festival to agree to perform,”Golde said.“We will be lining up other performers to appeal to various musical tastes throughout the day leading up to 38 Special taking the stage at 6:00 p.m.The River will be rockin’on September 8,that’s for sure!”
Anglers from throughout the region will descend upon Sans Souci Park for a two-person team catfish tournament from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with cash prizes for most weight of each team’s three biggest fish, as well as cash prizes for biggest single fish.
Memphis Riverboats will be on hand to give festival goers the chance to experience the Mississippi River from the deck of one of their historic riverboats. Festival goers also can sample various culinary delights with Big Catch Catfish Cook-Off contestants, as well as food vendors offering an assortment of Southern specialties.
Advance tickets for the Big Catch are only $10 and can be purchased online and at the Chamber offices. Kids 10 and under will be admitted for free. Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, but no food or beverages will be allowed.
